Our Identity
Who We Are
ALCDF works to create stronger communities, more resilient local economies and better opportunities for people living in Albania's rural and mountainous areas.
Our work is grounded in the belief that sustainable development is most effective when local people, institutions, businesses and civil society have the knowledge, resources and ownership to shape their own future. For this reason, we work closely with communities and local actors — from farmers, entrepreneurs and tourism businesses to municipalities, protected-area authorities, civil society organizations and national institutions.
With its headquarters in Tirana and a local presence in Dibër, ALCDF has implemented initiatives across most regions of Albania and has developed strong cross-border and regional partnerships throughout the Western Balkans.

ALCDF works at the intersection of people, local economies, institutions and the environment, with four core areas of expertise.

Rural & Economic Development
Supporting farmers, rural entrepreneurs, producer groups and local businesses to improve productivity, strengthen value chains, access markets and create sustainable income and employment - with particular attention to women, young people and disadvantaged communities.

Sustainable Tourism
Promoting rural, nature-based and adventure tourism as a driver of local economic development - destination development, tourism trails, capacity building for guides and businesses, visitor infrastructure and cross-border tourism cooperation.

Environment, Biodiversity & Climate Resilience
Supporting biodiversity conservation, protected-area management, ecosystem and habitat restoration, sustainable pasture and forest management, climate resilience, wildfire risk reduction, waste management and nature-based solutions.

Strengthening municipalities, local institutions and civil society organizations to improve participatory governance, strategic planning, service delivery, organizational development and community engagement.
