Awareness Meetings with Schools in the Protected Areas of Korab-Koritnik, in the Maqellare and Kastriot Administrative Units within the PONT Project Framework

Awareness meetings continue with schools in the Protected Areas of Korab-Koritnik, in the Maqellare and Kastriot Administrative Units. Protected Areas are home to threatened and irreplaceable flora and fauna on the planet. Therefore, Protected Areas are rightly recognized as centers for the conservation of habitats that are vital for the survival and prosperity of numerous species of flora and fauna. It is important that Protected Areas also become educational centers, in order to prepare and inspire a new generation with virtues to achieve our global and local biodiversity conservation goals. Protected Areas in the Sharr-Korab massif region are rich and diverse in species, habitats, and cultural heritage. As such, they have great potential to become exceptional outdoor classrooms for environmental education and learning from the best local practices. Supported by structured educational programs and trained educators, Protected Areas are undoubtedly excellent places for children and young people to learn about nature and acquire the problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities they need to face the challenges of the next generation. These awareness meetings precede the creative environmental activities of the schools and students themselves on issues concerning the Protected Areas of the Sharr-Korab massif.

This activity was organized within the framework of the project "Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in Sharr Mountain, Mavrovo and Korab-Koritnik", financed by the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust - PONT program, with project implementers ALCDF Foundation and partners CSCD and LAG Dibra Turistike.
