Korab Oxytropis (Oxytropis korabensis (Kümmerle & Jáv.) A.W.Hill)

Korab Oxytropis is one of the species published as early as 1920 and represents one of the first species to be named after Korab Mountain. The species was first discovered by two Hungarian botanists B. Kümmerle and S. Javorka. The species was collected during 1916 above the village of Radomirë, at elevations of 1350-1500 m and was initially considered as a subspecies (Oxytropis sericea subsp. korabensis), which was elevated to species level by A. Hill in 1929. Later, this species was also found in the neighboring territories of North Macedonia and Kosovo, thus remaining a Balkan endemic species, despite being first discovered in the Albanian territory of Korab Mountain.

ALCDF, within the framework of the project "Protection and Sustainable Use of Protected Areas in Sharr Mountain, Mavrova, and Korab-Koritnik", is implementing a study on the Inventory of Rare and Endemic Plants for the Korab-Koritnik Natural Park, together with the expert group of the Iliria association. This project is financed by the PONT program – Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust, implemented by ALCDF and partners CSCD and LAG Dibra Turistike.
