Awareness-Raising Activity with School Students in Margegaj Administrative Unit

Awareness-raising activities continue with school students in the Margegaj Administrative Unit area, as part of the project "Montenegro and Albania Towards Zero Waste". Awareness-raising sessions have been held in all schools of the Margegaj Administrative Unit with teachers and students. Armando Pjeternika, the Zero Waste project coordinator in TropojΓ«, in cooperation with school principals and the Margegaj Administrative Unit, organized awareness sessions with students and teachers, who are the best ambassadors of the "zero waste" philosophy in the Margegaj zone. A discussion also took place regarding a cleanup campaign to be organized on a massive scale throughout the entire Margegaj Administrative Unit before the start of the tourist season.

Materials, posters, and leaflets were distributed to students, and the steps towards zero waste management were presented and discussed, starting from the separation of waste at source into organic and other waste, composting of organic waste in households and in the community, encouraging the reuse and repair of materials, as well as waste recycling. Equally important is the creation of community spirit for Margegaj as a zero waste zone, where everyone contributes to achieving this goal. Further awareness-raising meetings with the community in each village will continue throughout April.

"Albania and Montenegro Without Waste" encompasses two cross-border regions in Margegaj and Guci, which are two pilot governance units of the "zero waste cities" initiative and part of the European network of "Zero Waste Municipalities". This initiative is financed by EU funds, the IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Montenegro - Albania. Regional Development Agency/RDA Bjelasica, Komovi, Prokletije Zero Waste Montenegro.
