Community Awareness Activities in Margegaj Administrative Unit

Community awareness activities are continuing in the Margegaj Administrative Unit area as part of the "Montenegro and Albania towards zero waste" project. Awareness sessions were held in the villages of the Margegaj Administrative Unit, including Margegaj, Dragobi, Cerem, Lagja e Paqes, Shoshaj, FushΓ« Lum, BradoshicΓ«, ValbonΓ« and Ragam. The "zero waste" project coordinator in TropojΓ«, Armando PjetΓ«rnika, in cooperation with the leaders of Margegaj Administrative Unit, organized awareness meetings with residents of these villages on "zero waste in the Margegaj area".

Discussions also took place regarding a cleanup campaign to be organized on a massive scale throughout the entire Margegaj Administrative Unit before the opening of the tourism season. Materials, posters and leaflets were distributed to participants, and the steps towards zero waste management were presented and discussed, starting from waste separation at source into organic and other waste, composting of organic waste at the household and community level, promoting the reuse and repair of materials, as well as waste recycling. Equally important is building a community spirit for Margegaj as a zero waste area, where everyone contributes to achieving this goal. Further awareness meetings with businesses will continue.

"Albania and Montenegro without waste" encompasses two cross-border regions in Margegaj and Guci, which are two pilot governance units of the "zero waste cities" initiative and part of the European network of "zero waste municipalities". This initiative is financed by EU funds, through the IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Montenegro - Albania.
