Strengthened the management, protection and promotion of important protected areas on both sides of the Albania–North Macedonia border.

ALCDF

Project Overview

The project strengthened the management, protection and promotion of important protected areas on both sides of the Albania–North Macedonia border.

It focused on introducing modern management tools while building stronger cooperation among protected-area institutions.

What We Did

The initiative supported Lurë National Park and Korab–Koritnik Nature Park in Albania, and Mavrovo and Pelister National Parks in North Macedonia.

GIS and Web-GIS systems were introduced, while park staff were trained in GIS technologies, GPS use and improved information management.

The project also supported awareness campaigns, knowledge exchange, feasibility work and dissemination of good practices in protected-area management.

Key Results

Management capacity was strengthened across four protected areas, providing staff with modern tools for planning, monitoring and managing natural resources.

At least 2,000 citizens were reached through environmental-awareness activities.

The project also strengthened cross-border exchange among protected-area authorities and laid important foundations for ALCDF's subsequent conservation work in the wider Sharr–Korab landscape.
